takoyaki5

So the exterior of the ball is crispy and perfect but the interior feature the batter that they also season in different levels. It will be soft but also gooey in your mouth. Remember it has the addition of the octopus that is soft with a pack of flavors.

Note though that the takoyaki is going to be a little bit mushy and that is just fine. This one has a high level of firmness and the level of goodness.

Here then you have the perfect umami flavors.

Here are the fun facts to know about the takoyaki

This is one of the most popular street food in Japan, and they will almost always eat it with the okonomiyaki.

One thing you should remember though is that the takoyaki is one meal that you will find more in the streets compared to other parts.

You can never serve it just as it is so you must use the takoyaki sauce which is much salty. When you then add on the sauce to the takoyaki then you will have it go well with other alcoholic drinks.

Lets talk about the sauce

For you to complete the flavors and the tastes, you need to have the perfect Takoyaki sauce as well. The sauce is more like the Worcestershire sauce. It’s however always thicker than the Worcestershire sauce. But you can add on some of the Japanese mayo as well.

If you like though you can buy this sauce in the store just like most Japanese, do but you can also make it at home.

Notice though that if you have the okonomiyaki or the tonkatsu sauce, they will work as the perfect substitute. Be informed that they will often sell the takoyaki sauce online, but you can check it on amazon as well.

But lets talk about the toppings

Of course when we are talking of the toppings, then we are referring to the takoyaki after you add the sauce on and then the toppings.

Add a handful of katsuobushi, and then you can sprinkle the aonori. Here you have the perfect solution to deliver the final touches.

So then you will have the katsuobushi being more like the dried bonito flakes.

You may not find them just anywhere, so you have to go to the next Asian stores for them.

Where to buy the takoyaki pan

Of course, if you’re going to make the best takoyaki, then you need to use the pan for best results. This is one of the pans you will mostly find in the kitchen equipment store, but my best place to get it is on amazon.

Below are my two versions to buy

Iwatani Takoyaki Grill Pan

Source

This grill pan will deliver the perfect tasting takoyaki and its easy to use it. This piece always has a nonstick surface which means it’ll prevent the food from sticking on the surface.

You always have a thick material surface which then means it’s going to retain the heat. This is also why it will cook the takoyaki perfectly.

Another thing is that it’s safe to use just the way it is. Its further easy to clean and you can be sure to have it serve you longer.

Health and Home Electric Takoyaki Maker

Source

Here you have an electric style pan, so then you don’t have to set it on the stovetop to have it work as you should do the one above. Although it looks smaller, you will actually make about 18 pieces of the takoyakis on this pan.

It further comes with the tools to make it easy to turn the pieces.

Like the one above it has a nonstick surface and that makes cleaning it an easy ride. The fun thing is further that you can heat it up easily.

How to store the takoyaki

When you have the leftovers, the first question to ask is whether it will be safe to store in the fridge. You can keep your extras though in the fridge for three days.

But remember to set them in the air tight container. When you want to heat them, you should reheat it again.

takoyaki6

If you want to use them at a later date though, you should use the freezer for the same.

You can also store the extra batter and only use it at a later date when need be.

Do you want to make it like a professional? Do the following.

Dont mince the oil

You want to make sure the pan surface has enough oil as that will make it easy to crisp it.

So if you set a pool of oil, you will have the batter pushing it to the sides, thus cooking it all evenly. With time you will learn how to set just enough oil.

I prefer pre-cooked octopus

Before you start the process you want to have boiled the fresh octopus or shrimp and other proteins. If you set it in the batter without really cooking it then you risk eating it raw. I like that you can easily find the precooked octopus in the stores.

Know the pan you are using

As you can see, we already showed you the pans above. Choose the right one for your takoyaki. If you don’t use the right pan, then you won’t make the perfect mold.

The sauce matters

We already talked in length on this. Be sure to make the perfect sauce to add on. We already showed you the best sauces to use above.

Can I make the takoyaki without the takoyaki pan?

I would love to say yes, but no, you can’t. This is not one of those meals you can use any baking tray and have it attain the perfect flavors. If you don’t have the takoyaki pan, then sorry you won’t make them.

Well, you haven’t travelled enough in Japan if you are yet to try the takoyaki. So I always say get yourself the tools and ingredients and make these delicious goodies.
