Steamed Tofu with Egg

Ingredients:

Before we dive into the preparation, let’s gather the ingredients for this delightful dish:

300g tofu
2 eggs
1.5 times water (compared to the amount of eggs)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp water
10g green onion, chopped
20g Chinese ham, diced

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Preparing the Tofu:

arrange the sliced tofu pieces

Begin by selecting high-quality tofu from your local grocery store or market. Opt for soft tofu for the best results. Once you have your tofu, gently remove it from its packaging and place it on a clean cutting board. Slice the tofu into bite-sized pieces, ensuring they are uniform in size. This will allow for even cooking and better presentation.

Take a heatproof dish and arrange the sliced tofu pieces evenly within it.

Preparing the Egg Mixture:

Preparing the Egg Mixture

In a mixing bowl, crack open the fresh eggs and beat them until well-combined. To achieve a light and fluffy texture, add 1.5 times the amount of water compared to the number of eggs. Stir the mixture gently until the water and eggs are fully integrated.

Carefully skim off any foam that may have formed on the surface of the egg mixture. This step ensures a smooth and clean appearance when pouring the mixture over the tofu.

Steaming the Tofu with Egg:

Pour the beaten egg mixture over the tofu, allowing it to seep into the crevices.

Place the dish into a steamer and allow it to steam for approximately 15 minutes or until the eggs are fully set.

Preparing the Flavorful Sauce:

While the tofu and eggs are steaming to perfection, let’s prepare the delightful sauce that will elevate this dish to new heights.

In a small bowl, combine the salt, light soy sauce, sesame oil, and water. Stir the mixture well to ensure all the ingredients are properly incorporated.

Now, it’s time to enhance the flavors further. Sprinkle the chopped green onions and diced Chinese ham over the steamed tofu and egg, adding a burst of color and taste.

Drizzle the prepared sauce evenly over the tofu and egg. The sauce’s savory and aromatic essence will complement the mildness of the tofu and the richness of the egg, creating a harmonious balance of flavors.

Final Steaming:

To infuse all the elements with the delectable sauce, return the dish to the steamer for an additional two minutes. This final step ensures that every mouthful is infused with a delightful blend of tastes.
